What is a virtual law office?

Delivered through a secure, web-based software application, my virtual law office offers an alternative to the traditional "brick and mortar" law practice giving clients the option of affordable limited legal services.  The process is simple: log in to ask a legal question and receive a personalized price quote for your legal matter.  If you approve of the quote, you may accept the quote and we will proceed with your legal matter.  You will be charged only after you have given permission.

My virtual law office is not just a "forms" website.  I am a licensed attorney who will provide personalized attention to your legal matter.  No one should trust their valuable legal rights and assets to a company that does not offer legal advice by a licensed attorney and simply deposits forms into a "shopping cart" and asks for a credit card number.

What are, limited legal services?

According to the North Carolina State Bar, limited legal services, also known as unbundled legal services "are legal services that are limited in scope and presented as a menu of legal service options from which the client may choose." See N.C. State Bar, 2005 Formal Ethics Opinion 10.  It may be that you just need research on a legal point or the review of a document such as a separation agreement or power of attorney.  You may plan to represent yourself in court and need help assembling the documents.

Please note that when we enter into an agreement for limited legal services, you alone will be responsible for filing any drafted documents with the necessary entities in accordance with the deadlines provided by North Carolina Law.  As part of my drafting services, I will advise you when, where, and how to file your legal documents, but I will not do it for you.

Not every matter is suitable to limited legal services.  If I am unable to provide all of the necessary services, I will refer you, free of charge, to another attorney or to the North Carolina lawyer referral service.

Why do I offer a virtual law office?

Affordability and Accessibility.

A VLO allows me to keep overhead low and that translates to lower costs for my clients.

Often because of time constraints or accessibility issues, meeting with an attorney face-to-face can be difficult or inconvenient.  A VLO allows my clients to communicate with me online when it is convenient for them.  For other clients, coming into a legal office to discuss sensitive personal matters with someone you just met can be off-putting and uncomfortable.  A VLO allows my clients to address their concerns in privacy of their own home.

I believe that everyone is entitled to quality legal services regardless of their income.  Often people have a general question or simply need basic legal guidance and they are unable or unwilling to pay hundreds of dollars to meet with an attorney.
